Singer Zayn Malik recently expressed his frustration over the strict style rules which forced him to shave off his beard and not dyeing his hair when he was a member of “One Direction.” The restrictions were implied on his bandmates too. He left the band in March 2015.
Recently while being on the cover of Complex magazine, Zayan was quoted, “There were certain restrictions in terms of the way that we could come outside of that young teen boy look.” He added, “Mainly my beard, honestly. I wasn’t allowed to keep it. Eventually, when I got older, I rebelled against it, and decided to keep it anyway. That was just because I looked older than the rest of them. That’s one of the things that is now quite cool. I get to keep my beard. I also wanted to dye my hair when I was in the band, but I wasn’t allowed to.”
Before his formal split from the group to take up a solo career, Zayn started revolting and differING from the youth image enforced on “One Direction” by saying no to shave. He told American magazine that he was not being true to himself as a person while he was in the band and it was the main reason for his exit. Belfast Telegraph also reported the story and mentioned that the 23-year-old stated, “That was something that was always underlying, and ended up as the main factor of me leaving in the end. It was about denying the authenticity of who I was, and what I enjoyed about music, and why I got into it.”
Since his departure from “One Direction,” the pop artist sported a more grown-up image by going for makeover of his look. He has been seen in interesting hairstyles and dying his hair various shades.
Recently he was seen in a racy video with much-matured look with his supermodel lover Gigi Hadid while promoting his solo material, his track “Pillow Talk.”
