Newly crowned Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach made several interviews after the major crowning mistake at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant last month.
Wurtzbach admitted to “Good Morning America” co-anchor Lara Spencer that she find it “difficult” to share the crown to first-runner up, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez.
“I think it would be a little bit difficult for two girls to share a crown, but I have high hopes that this will give great opportunities for me and Miss Colombia and the rest of the contestants,” said Wurtzbach during her first ever sit-down interview.
It can be recalled that pageant host Steve Harvey made a huge mistake in crowning the wrong Miss Universe. He first announced Miss Colombia as the new Miss Universe instead of the real winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Harvey later admitted the mistake and Miss Universe 2014 Gabriela Isler took the crown from Gutierrez.
Wurtzbach also defended Harvey saying: “Maybe the way it was written, it was a little confusing. I understand. It was his first time to judge a pageant, but it’s OK. He’s human. People make mistakes.”
Despite the gaffe, Wurtzbach believed Harvery should return to host the show.
“Yeah, why not? I think he’s a breath of fresh air, he made us feel very relaxed, the contestants. It makes us show our personalities a little bit more. I think that benefits everybody, especially the viewers,” she said.
Meanwhile, Miss Colombia addressed the issue for the first time to a Colombian radio station, calling the incident “a great injustice,” adding “it was very humiliating” for her and that she believes the two should share the crown, ABC News reported.
Aside from “Good Morning America,” Wurtzbach also appeared in “Live! with Kelly and Michael” on ABC, wherein she met her favorite actor Samuel L. Jackson.
Pia shared via Instagram a photo of her and Jackson, which she captioned: “I’m such a huge fan of @samuelljackson. I can’t believe I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite actors during LIVE with@kellyandmichael.”
During the show, hosts Kelly and Michael even asked the new Miss Universe to take the victory walk she missed to do on TV. Wurtzbach enthusiastically obliged in front of the cheering audience.
