Did you see Johnny Depp’s cameo in the latest episode of “Walking Dead?” Do you think he will be making more appearances on the show in the future?
According to Cinema Blend, this is highly unlikely. You wouldn’t even think the A-list actor would be a regular guest star if you did catch his cameo.
Spoiler Alert! The most recent episode saw Rick in the Saviors’ compound. He is trying to pick among three severed zombie heads. He needed one that looked most like his new ally Gregory. “The three heads were in varied stages of decay. But one of them looked eerily familiar,” Cinema Blend said. So, Depp did not exactly guest star. His head only made an inadvertent cameo.
In a sit-down with Entertainment Weekly, director Greg Nicotero confirmed that it was indeed Depp’s head we saw in the episode. “One of the other heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp. I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt. I can’t remember who the third one is, but I’m in good company,” the director said. A dummy of Nicotero’s head also appeared beside Depp’s in the scene.

Cinema Blend said the special effects crew of the show deserves praise for their work. “[T]he Johnny Depp head looks enough like the actor that it wouldn’t have been totally shocking to see Depp get a ‘special appearance by’ credit,” the entertainment news site said. They were so good actor Norman Reedus reportedly wanted to take them home after the shoot.
The real Gregory meanwhile made his appearance in the season 6 episode “Knots Untie.” He is played by actor Xander Berkeley.
