With the “Vampire Diaries” season 7 leaving us at an unexpected and shocking turn, fans who have been following the show since day one will eagerly be waiting for season 8.

However, if you rewind back to when the season finale promo was first launched, a chill must have run down your spine when Damon uttered the word, “Elena.” And during the finale, the audio cameo of sorts from Nina Dobrev sure raised the hopes further that everyone’s favourite lead will be returning for some new scenes for season 8.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Julie Plec revealed that Nina had in fact come in for the ADR, (automated dialogue replacement) which fans heard during the season 7 finale. Plec said:

“I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR. She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit.”

When questioned about fans getting to see Nina on the show again, Plec confirmed that  she will be following through on her original plan of bringing Nina back for the finale of the show.

“It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head,” Plec shared. “Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to. But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”
