There is still hope for a Damon and Elena reunion in “The Vampire Diaries.”

In an interview with Collider, TVD producer Caroline Dries hinted about a possible reunion between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.

The actress played the role of Elena Gilbert, the love interest of Somerhalder’s character – Damon Salvatore.

Although Dries admitted that Dobrev would not be returning any time soon, she did leave open the possibility of the actress making a cameo as Elena in the series finale.

“No. I would say that, if The CW called today and was like, ‘By the way, Season 7 is the last season,’ then I think we would scramble to make sure that she was in the finale. But as of right now, we’re acting like the show will go on, so no,” she said.

TVD team of writers has kept Dobrev’s character alive despite her exit from the show. Dries explained how challenging it is to keep Elena’s memory a part of the story even though Dobrev is not around anymore.

“It’s a total challenge and it helps that she is Damon’s touchstone for every decision that he makes, even when she was on the show. It helps that that is why Damon is making the decisions that he’s making. So yeah, I still think that she does stay present,” she explained.

There were rumors that Somerhalder will exit the franchise after season 7 and Nina will be coming back.

Reports indicated that Dobrev will be coming back since some TVD cast members prefer her “friendliness” to Ian’s “diva behaviour.

However, Dobrev earlier confirmed that she will not reprise her character as Elena in the CW series, saying: “That chapter has closed, sadly – bittersweet.”

Meanwhile, Damon hooked up with a beautiful woman who threw him the stake during his fight with Sam in “Postcard From Edge” episode, Hollywood Life reported.

Damon went drinking after his near-death experience at Julian’s hand. When he came back home, the mystery woman walked in. She brought tequila with her and Damon found himself staring deeply in her eyes. The woman then kissed him. He pulled back for a second but later goes back in, Entertainment Weekly wrote.

“The Vampire Diaries” season seven continues in its new time slot – Friday at 8 p.m. – on the CW.
