The Uber driver who is accused of killing 6 people in a shooting spree last month told investigators that Uber app forced him to commit murders.
45-year-old Dalton carried out the shootings in Kalamazoo, 150 miles west of Detroit. Police charged him with killing 6 people and injuring two others.
Delton told the investigators that the Uber App took over his “mind and body”. He confessed to the murders saying that the app instructed him where to go to shoot victims.
He said, “When I logged onto [the Uber app], it started making me feel like a puppet.”
Delton also claimed that the Smartphone app told him to kill his victims. He said that he would have a shootout with police but the app instructed him not to do so.
Delton said that on Saturday, 20th February when he opened up the app a symbol popped out of it. He believed that the symbol was that of an Eastern Star. He said that the symbol resembles a devil’s head and the entire problem started because of that, reported Detroit Free Press.
In his statement to the police reports, Delton described the figure he claimed was giving him instructions. The statement read, “Dalton described the devil figure as a horned cow head or something like that and then it would give you an assignment and it would literally take over your whole body.”
Delton told the investigators that he experienced a full body take over. He also expressed his concern over placing him with the general population of the jail. He claimed that he could not remember what exactly happened that day as he wasn’t in the control of his body.
Police said that Delton did not know any of the victims personally and they were selected at random, reported BBC. The court has ordered him to undergo mental competency exam. However, the result of the test would not affect his criminal responsibility. As Michigan does not have death penalty, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
One of his victims, a 14-year-old girl Abigail Kopf showed miraculous recovery after she was declared as brain dead by the doctors.
