Former boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather  says the fight between him and UFC star Conor McGregor is nearing very close. Both have been verbal sparring with each other for months but it has been confirmed on Tuesday that the two had actually agreed on terms for their match.

According to reports, the UFC star and the boxing world champion have already settled on their fees. However, the alleged contract has not been signed yet officially due to a third-party holdup. But they already have agreed on various details regarding the fight.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the fight could be announced within two weeks. But no confirmation has been reported yet.

However, many believe that the third-party holdup they are talking about could be Dana White, the president of UFC. White has been known to be unsupportive of a possible match between McGregor and Mayweather, likening it to McGregor being the equivalent of Tom Brady acting as a backup quarterback in the Super Bowl.

“There is a lot of real stuff going on. It still seems like a long shot, but when there is a lot of money involved, people tend to figure it out. There are a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but I’m not sure if we’re going to eat,”  Anthony Marnell, the chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission said.

Marnell adds that they know the conversations and information that have been disclosed, including those that were not released to the media. However, he cannot say if these actually indicate of the fight.

Many have also doubted this because Mayweather said that he would no longer fight. In 2015, he said that his fight with Andre Berto would be his last one. He also said that he would not fight anyone again for less than $US100 million or $AU130.7 million.

Nonetheless, Mayweather said that he knows that McGregor is one of the few people who could provide enough interest to allow him to reach that huge fee. The boxer adds that their match would also make the most business sense.

Conor McGregor is among the most popular UFC fighters. In fact, he has the highest pay-per-view revenue in the entire UFC history. He also believes that Mayweather is his key to a big payout. McGregor once said that he wants $100 million cash to fight Mayweather but it must be done under boxing rules because Mayweather is afraid of a real fight.

Mayweather also teased fans that his fight with McGregor could happen. On the other hand, McGregor said that the fight is more than explored and has been discussed for a while.
