Mass stabbing at a Sydney house party killed a teenager. The incident took place on Victoria Road in Ryde in Sydney’s north-west, as the 16-year-old boy and six others were stabbed.
According to police, there was a fight as the party around midnight. As a result of the mass stabbing, six men and one woman were wounded.
When the teenage boy was rushed to Westmead Hospital, he was already in critical condition. The case is now being treated as homicide.
According to Superintendent John Duncan, there is no reason to believe that someone gatecrashed the party and stabbed those people. It is believed that the fight was among the invited guests at the Sydney house party.
The death of the teenage boy was confirmed by Superintendent Duncan. The boy died early morning on Sunday.
“We believe around 50 people were at the party around the time the altercation broke out,” the ABC quoted him as saying. “At this stage of our inquiries we are trying to establish why the party turned violent.”
Among the people who were hospitalized, there was another 16-year-old boy. A 20-year-old was also taken to hospital. Both of them were admitted to Westmead Hospital. The teenager was released later on, while the other man is believed to be in critical condition.
The wounded woman is another teenager who was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital. Three other teenage boys were also taken to the same hospital. However, all four of them have been released.
Witnesses have started speaking to officers, but no arrests have been made yet. Superintendent Duncan is not sure if there was any parent present at the Sydney house party. He added that detectives as well as the homicide squad were hoping to speak to any of the people who were present at the party.
According to one of the neighbors, there was a lot of yelling and screaming by around 60 people at night. One the other hand, the resident said there was nothing “over the top.”
