It is looking like Tom Welling will appear in the next season of “Supergirl” as Clark Kent did for 10 years in “Smallville” now that he has some considerable free time in his schedule.

According to Comic Book Resources, Welling has recently considered an appearance in at least one of the shows in Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti DC television universe.

“There’s people who would like it… there’s people who don’t like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever actually asked me to do it,” Welling said. “So, I don’t know. It would be kind of odd. I don’t know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman.”

Welling now has time to participate in the second season of “Supergirl” after the “Section 13” pilot he was developing for CBS was passed over for the 2016-2017 television season.

Welling previously starred as Clark Kent and his superhero alter ego in “Smallville,” which aired on the CW (the same network “Supergirl” will be transferring to).

In other news, apart from Superman, “Supergirl” will be adding five new characters in the second season, TV Line reported. Two of these new characters will be series regulars while the others will serve in recurring roles.

One of the series regular slots will be reserved for the role of Lex Luthor’s younger sister. According to the casting descriptions, she will be aged 25-35 and will be determined to get out from the shadow of her more infamous brother.

The other series regular role will be for Nick Farrow, a reporter who will be a colleague of Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) at CatCo. He is the son of a renowned journalist who discovers that the more time he spends with Kara, the more “the hero in [himself] might come out.”
