One of the things people are most looking forward to with Suicide Squad is the Joker. Fans will likely not be disappointed. The Clown Prince of Crime will be so bad in the movie that only the devil himself could be worse. This, actor Jared Leto hinted in a recent interview.
According to Digital Spy, the actor recently talked about his role in the DC universe. “The Joker is an icon, a legend, the baddest of the bad,” Leto said. However, he did admit that “baddest of the bad” does not include Lucifer himself. Leto said his character still pales in comparison to the devil. “The only villain who may be more infamous is the devil,” he explained.
But the actor still enjoyed taking on the role, though. Leto said it is “hard not to be a fan” since the Joker “seems to be having the most fun.”
Meanwhile, according to ComicBook.com, it was “clear” to director David Ayer that Leto “wanted to make something really different” with he role. “I got the sense he was on a mission,” Ayer said. “This wasn’t just a movie for him… He wanted to break some rules, and that’s very compelling.”
It was earlier reported that Ayer was all praises when it came to Leto’s performance as the Joker. The actor, he said, added his own “modern twist” to the role. “With Jared, it’s interesting because how do you come at that character? It’s like treading on hallowed ground,” he said in a previous interview. “It requires a strange combination of both respect and fearlessness… You’re looking at one of the best known villains in western literature. He has to be very respectful and elegantly crafted, because you’re following in the footsteps of giants.”
Suicide Squad will hit the big screen on August 5.
