In a movie full of bad guys, fans might find it hard to spot the villain. Promotional materials for “Suicide Squad” seem to paint the Joker as the film’s main Big Bad. However, should viewers watch out for a bait and switch? Will Harley Quinn be the real villain in the movie?

Just like the Joker, Harley Quinn does figure in a lot of the movie’s ads in the past few months. However, these ads built her up as part of the titular suicide squad. They might be the “Worst Heroes Ever.”

But the promos do set them up as heroes – bad guys who try to do good – nonetheless. But is Margot Robbie’s character just a plain bad guy in the film? Are producers just setting audiences up? Will Harley Quinn be secretly working with and for the Joker in the upcoming DC movie?

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Australian actress did confirm Harley Quinn’s “incredible” devotion to the movie’s apparent antagonist. “They have a dysfunctional relationship, but she loves him anyway,” she explained. However, she did not disclose if her character would be working for or against the Joker in the film.

A post shared by Suicide Squad (@suicidesquadmovie) on, however, pointed out that the Joker and Harley Quinn’s “dysfunctional but lasting” relationship on screen is right in line with their relationship in the comic books. However, audiences won’t know for sure which side Harley Quinn would choose on screen until the movie comes out.

Robbie did say her character “loves causing mayhem and destruction,” though. So, fans can still look forward to a lot of antics from her in the movie. The actress also said her character would use her skills and training as a former gymnast in her upcoming fight scenes.

How would Harley Quinn’s relationship with the Joker play out on screen? Fans will only need to wait one more month to find out.

“Suicide Squad” will hit the big screen on August 5.
