Will a girl from Down Under really be James Bond’s next leading lady? Aussie actress Margot Robbie has risen to Hollywood prominence in recent years. She has already starred alongside an Oscar winner in an Oscar-nominated film. She has taken on iconic characters from Suicide Squad to The Legend of Tarzan revivalWill she star in the James Bond reboot as well?

Her version of Harley Quinn are among the things fans are most looking forward to in Suicide Squad. Will fans have another Margot Robbie thing to look forward to soon? According to news sources, the actress might just appear in the next 007 film as the super spy’s leading lady. Or at least, she has emerged as a favorite among fans to land the role ahead of other actresses.

As News Australia pointed out, online betters at Paddy Power have given Robbie a 12/1 odds to be the next Bond girl. Other actresses on their list include Emily Blunt, Emily Ratajkowski and Emma Watson. Producers have yet to cast James Bond himself, though. Director Sam Mendes earlier said the actor they’re casting would not be what most people expect. Could Ghostbusters star Chris Hemsworth become the next 007? Could Robbie agree to star in the reboot if a fellow Australian plays James Bond? The actress has yet to comment about this.

Meanwhile, some of Robbie’s fans don’t think she should settle for another leading lady role. The Guardian’s writer, Ben Child, in particular thinks she’s too good to be just another Bond girl. Child thinks it’s “tedious” for Hollywood to offer the actress cliche “love interest” parts.

However, to be fair, acting heavyweights have taken on the part of James Bond’s leading lady in the past. Oscar winning actress, Halle Berry, once starred in a 007 movie. The most recent Bond girl Léa Seydoux, on the other hand, won a Palme d’Or at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival before her James Bond stint.
