In upcoming DC film “Suicide Squad,” fans are definitely looking forward to Jared Leto portraying the crazy, evil Joker. Comic book fans know his influence on Harley Quinn. However, it seems The Joker has a secret partner most fans are unaware of.
Movie Pilot reported that there’s a possible hint on who this “secret ally” is. And if you thought the trailer gave away that hint, think again. Apparently, the “Batman vs Superman” ultimate edition gave new Easter Eggs. The edition featured a photo of The Joker opening a briefcase.
In the said photo, there’s a line noticeable on the briefcase just behind the written text. The text somehow showed the name “Van Criss.” However, the name remains a mystery. The site noted that Van Criss “is not a hero, villain, or organization in the DC Comics.” Hence, there’s a possibility for the film to introduce a new villain.
Late last year, the film’s producer Charles Roven hinted how this Joker differed from Heath Ledger’s version. “He’s more social… a very successful and smart businessman besides being a sociopath,” Roven admitted. Movie Pilot seems this is an indication that The Joker is negotiating with another person in order ” to achieve his dastardly aims.”
Meanwhile, fans are hoping that Jared Leto will do justice in his iconic role. Director David Ayer even said that he could probably the Best Joker ever!
“With Jared, it’s interesting because how do you come at that character? It’s like treading on hallowed ground. It requires a strange combination of both respect and fearlessness… You’re looking at one of the best known villains in western literature. He has to be very respectful and elegantly crafted, because you’re following in the footsteps of giants,” Ayer revealed.
Jared Leto, on the hand, ensured his full commitment to the role. He spent time with murderers and psychopaths so that he could prepare for The Joker role. There was even an instance when his crazy laugh scared the people passing by New York streets.
“You know when you hear someone laugh at a restaurant? It’s a little jarring. I tried them out. And I kind of got to a place where I would laugh and people are always turning around like, ‘Who is this creepy guy behind me?” the actor said.
