A potential Suicide Squad 2 film might have reason to worry now since Jared Leto joined the Blade Runner 2 cast.
The actor’s recent portrayal of the Joker helped raise anticipation for Suicide Squad. Jared Leto certainly took the role to heart. His co-stars attested to the crazy jokes he pulled off to get into character. Hence, his disappointment when the fruits of his thespian labor did not live up to expectation. The movie received bad reviews. Moreover, a number of his scenes as the Joker did not make the final cut.
Consequently, it led to speculation the actor would give up the role even if plans for Suicide Squad 2 happened. Regardless, the thought of someone else as the Joker would be a letdown owing to Leto’s good chemistry with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
However, the speculation might turn into an upsetting reality for a potential Suicide Squad 2 film. As it turns out, Jared Leto signed up for the Blade Runner sequel. The actor joined the stellar cast comprised of Mackenzie Davis, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, and Robin Wright. So far, limited information about the sequel is available. Although it was revealed the setting of the movie reportedly takes place decades after the original.
Even so, Screen Rant already expressed high hopes for Blade Runner 2 when it hits theaters on October 6, 2017.
“There’s always a certain amount of risk when creating a sequel to an aged and much beloved film, but casting actors of Leto’s caliber is one way to ensure that, at the very least, this is one sequel that won’t lack for talent,” the publication surmised.
Earlier reports about the Blade Runner 2 hinted filming to start by July. Ridley Scott serves as executive producer this time around with Denis Villeneuve taking up directorial duties. Harrison Ford returns as protagonist Richard Deckard.
