Stranger Things Season 2 star Winona Ryder has opened up about playing Joyce in the Netflix show.
Ryder has been enjoying portraying the role of Joyce Byers in Stranger Things because she can relate to her. Joyce is a mother of two boys whose fear for her missing son is dismissed by those around her as female anxiety.
Ryder revealed that her ability to play Joyce effectively has been questioned since she doesn’t have kids. The actress admitted that nothing can compare to the real experience of a mother. However, Ryder also stressed that she can give her life to a child whom she doesn’t even know.
“I actually felt tremendous compassion for her [Joyce]. I feel like she was one of these people that had dreams [for her life]. But she had kids. And it made me think of all the women that I know who have kids …” she told the New York Magazine.
The Netflix series follows the mysterious disappearance of 12-year-old Will Byers. A girl named Eleven, who has telekinetic power, will help Will’s friends in searching for him. Will’s older brother Jonathan and the town police chief investigate his disappearance.
Stranger Things Season 2 also stars David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Cara Buono, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine.
Meanwhile, the Netflix paranormal nostalgia series is tailing HBO’s Game of Thrones for the title of most in-demand TV show.
According to Parrot Analytics, GoT secured the top spot in the first week of August. However, Stranger Things is close behind and could surpass GoT as the Netflix show continues to receive positive reviews from critics and fans. Other series in the top five are Preacher (AMC), Mr. Robot (USA Network) and Pretty Little Liars (Freeform.)
Parrot Analytics measures audience demand across all platforms. The measurement service added Stranger Things is already dominating the demands among digital titles.
Stranger Things Season 2 is yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix. However, Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings has said it would be dumb for the network not to renew the show.
