“Spiderman Homecoming” is slated for release next year. Amidst speculations on the upcoming Marvel film, one big question is who would be Tom Holland’s leading lady? A Filipino actress named Liza Soberano is rumored to have auditioned for the role but will the reigning Miss Universe likely get the part?
In a report by Manila Bulletin, Soberano clarified that the audition rumors will stay as it is. The site mentioned that the idea of her being the next Mary Jane Watson, Spidey’s leading lady, started on social media. The actress instantly debunked the claims and revealed that she didn’t audition for the part.
“I think that’s what the fans wanted,” Soberano told in a TV interview. She mentioned it was probably a Filipino fan who first talked about the role on Twitter. In the said tweet, she wanted Liza Soberano to become the movie’s Mary Jane. Soberano has a huge fan base that fans started re-tweeting about an offer she didn’t actually get.
Fans shouldn’t lose hope anyway since Soberano is keen to play the part. “I would love that. That would be a nice opportunity,” she told ABS-CBN News.
Another Filipino actress and beauty queen might just be eyed for the role. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach previously expressed her desire to star as the next James Bond’s leading lady. But with no confirmation on who will be the actor to play Agent 007, it looks like Wurtzbach should consider another leading lady role.
Do you think Liza Soberano or Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach should be Tom Holland’s leading lady in “Spiderman Homecoming”?
Marvel has yet to make an official announcement on who will play Mary Jane Watson so fans must keep their fingers crossed. So far, Robert Downey Jr, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya and Tony Revolori are confirmed to join the upcoming film.
