The “Spider-Man” movie can officially count on Robert Downey Jr. The actor earlier teased about his role in the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could this good news be an indication that “Iron Man 4” would push through in 2020?
Variety wrote about RDJ’s appearance in the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie. However, the publication noted that he would appear as Tony Stark, the alter ego of Iron Man.
Plot details of “Spider-Man” are heavily guarded, Variety reported. Hence, the extent of RDJ’s role remains a mystery. It’s not known if RDJ’s deal for the “Spider-Man” movie will extend to its sequels, The Wrap wrote. The publication also revealed an insider scoop that said RDJ would appear in the Iron Man suit onscreen.
Sources revealed that Sony and Marvel worked hard to include him in “Spider-Man” following his on-screen chemistry with Tom Holland who plays the titular character. RDJ’s portrayal of Iron Man in “Captain America: Civil War” was said to be the last time he would don the suit. Hence, it hinted at the cancellation of “Iron Man 4.”
In addition to his role as Iron Man, Screenrant reminded that Robert Downey Jr. is also known for his portrayal of the British super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes. While he’s been busy promoting “Captain America: Civil War,” RDJ teased about “Sherlock Holmes 3,” the publication reported.
“If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it,” Downey said.
