Sherlock season 4 release date is slated for next year, but rumours and spoilers are somehow keeping eager and excited fans afloat. There have been a lot of speculations about the upcoming run, but this early, viewers can just wait and see what showunner Stephen Moffat has up his sleeve.
Previous reports have already confirmed that the new season will introduce a new villain played by “Harry Potter” actor Toby Jones. While producers have yet to reveal his specific role, they were generous enough to tease that Jones will be playing a villain in season 4.
“I’m excited and intrigued by the character I shall be playing,” the actor said, reported by Radio Times. The Independent noted that his character will be introduced right away and will be seen in episode 2.
Many are speculating that the new villain might have some connections to Sherlock’s arch nemesis, Moriarty, and his rumoured return. Fans will have to wait and see how his story will unfold.
Meanwhile, new Sherlock season 4 release date updates are also suggesting that the upcoming run could entail “life-changing” situations for the characters. Could this be Sherlock’s last season alive?
“For one, ‘Sherlock’ co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also portrays the role of Mycroft Holmes, has said that the regulars of the series will face major, life-changing situations,” Christian Today reported.
“This statement by Gatiss leads to speculations that it will be in season 4 when one of the characters, who can possibly be Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), will meet his demise. Fans theorise that the detective will have a brush up with death.”
Some theories are claiming that Sherlock’s close call with death will involve Moriarty suggesting his return once more. As the Christian Today report suggested, Sherlock will be risking his life when Moriarty goes after John (Martin Freeman) and Mary (Amanda Abbington) Watson.
