Selena Gomez has stood by Taylor Swift amid the controversy about Kanye West’s claims that he made the “Shake It Off” singer a star.

If you are still not aware of Kanye’s claims about making Taylor a star, you need to hear him rap about it. Kanye says he has made “the bitch” famous.

“For all my Southside niggas that know me best/I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous/God damn/I made that bitch famous,” Kanye raps in the song, also featuring Rihanna.

Selena believes whatever Kanye said was his own opinion. “Everybody has their own opinion,” Selena says on SiriusXM Hits 1. “At the end of the day, you can just do what you do. She’s killing it and she kind of always has been.”

Taylor’s publicist earlier said the lyrics had bothered the singer. Kanye claims that he informed Taylor about the lines. However, her publicist disagrees.

“Kanye did not call for approval,” Fox News quotes her rep as talking to the press, “but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account.”

The rep said Taylor had cautioned Kanye about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. “Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous,’” the publicist added.

Kanye reacted to the controversy with a number of tweets on February 12. He said he was entitled to no censorship since he was an artist. “I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her,” he tweeted.

He defended the term “bitch” which, according to him, is an “endearing term” in hip hop. He compares it with another “endearing term” in hip hop, “nigga.”

Kanya also said he had a long conversation about the lyrics with Taylor. “I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny,” he tweeted.

Kanye even credited Taylor for coming up with the idea behind the lyrics. “I’m not even gone take credit for the idea… it’s actually something Taylor came up with,” he tweeted.

“She was having dinner with one of our friends who’s name I will keep out of this and she told him I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous!”
