A release date for the story expansion of “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, called “Baby Yaga: The Temple of the Witch”, has finally been announced.
Polygon reports that the first story-focused downloadable content will launch on January 26 on Xbox One. The website notes that the release date for the DLC is only days before “Rise of the Tomb Raider” launches on PC. However, it is unclear whether “Baby Yaga: The Temple of the Witch” will also make it to PC.
Polygon describes the new DLC as follows:
“[…] will feature protagonist Lara Croft entering a strange new tomb. Therein, she will encounter new enemies, solve puzzles and fight through some wicked hallucinations, all while battling a seemingly supernatural force.”
The website discusses that according to Microsoft, the DLC will be able to give additional hours of gameplay for players.
Meanwhile, GameSpot notes that although a release date has been confirmed for Xbox One, a release date of the DLC on Xbox 360 was not included. This raises the question on whether “Baby Yaga: The Temple of the Witch” is coming to the said platform or not.
GameSpot also reveals that the “Baby Yaga” DLC follows the first piece of DLC for “Rise of the Tomb Raider” which was the Endurance Mode. According to the website, another expansion called “Cold Darkness Awakened” is set to make its way to Xbox One platforms later in 2016.
As per the release of “Rise of the Tomb Raider” on PS4 later in the year, Screen Rant analyzes that it remains to be seen how Sony will approach the game’s release on the platform, considering the exclusivity agreement between Microsoft and Square Enix. On one hand, the website says that Sony can market “Rise of the Tomb Raider” as a new game. On the other hand, Sony may also choose not to reward Square Enix because of the agreement.
For now, players on Xbox One are less than a week away from getting their hands on “Baby Yaga: The Temple of the Witch”.
