The third installment of the “Princess Diaries” franchise has received a green light. Director Garry Marshall has revealed that the third part is very much on the cards. However, the lead actress, Anne Hathaway has not yet started shooting for the movie. It will happen after she delivers her baby and comes back from a maternity break.
“Princess Diaries 3” has been in the news for quite some time with reports indicating that the third part will not happen. Entertainment Weekly had stated more than a year ago that fans should not keep their fingers crossed anymore for an onscreen date with Princess Mia.
However, according to latest developments, Marshall announced that he and Hathaway are keen on the third installment, informs People.com. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” he told the publication. “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it,” he added.
He also teased fans with news that Chris Pine too might be a part of the upcoming movie, states NZ Herald. Pines played the role of Lord Nicholas Devereaux in “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” that released in 2004.
“Yes, well Chris Pine likes me, you know why? Because his father is in [the upcoming movie] Mother’s Day,” said Marshall. “His father I know, I’ve seen him in plays. Chris Pine and my kids went to similar schools, so I knew him as a kid. [Pine’s father] is quite good, he plays a strange, funny Texan. He and Margo Martingale are husband and wife,” the director added.
Princess Diaries tracks the life of a regular San Francisco teenager, Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway). She is the heir to the crown of Genovia, which is currently being ruled by her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews).
