Police officers at Darwin Station, Australia, have issued a safety warning relating to the public’s craze for playing Pokemon Go across the country.

Pokemon Go has been released in Android and iOS versions on Thursday. This is what pushed the Northern Territory police officials to warn the public and ask them to remain alert. The police department has released a Facebook post to remind people that safety always comes first. The release of a game that is capable of tempting the masses is a major concern as people now have an opportunity to play on the go.

“[It’s] a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street,” the post released by the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services on Facebook read. “That Sandshrew isn’t going anywhere fast.”

9News reported that besides safety, the use of the name of NT police station in the game is yet another reason for releasing a warning. It has been featured as a  Pokestop for players to collect items to be used in the game.

“For those budding Pokémon Trainers out there using Pokémon Go – whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokéstop, please be advised that you don’t actually have to step inside in order to gain the Pokéballs,” the Northern Territory Police, Fire, and Emergency Services posted online.

Reports have revealed that the game designers have used the Sandshrew station’s geo-tag. The game asks the players to travel to the police station with their smartphone GPS and camera to take a picture of it. As a result, the NT police was forced to release its statement to ask people to stay away.

The game was launched in the United States on Wednesday while Australia and New Zealand already had a half-day headstart.

There are positive reports about the Pokemon Go release. “I played Pokemon GO for three hours or so this morning, wandering around the streets of Philadelphia, collecting little monsters and forging ahead with Nintendo and Niantic Labs’ bold new direction for the franchise,” Forbes contributor Dave Thler shared his experience and review.

He shared, “I had a good time! You can read my review for more info. I did face some bugs in my time with the game, and it seems like Niantic’s servers are struggling to handle the crush of launch day. ”

People have been enjoying the game since its release. However, there are reports of server struggle to play the new launch.
