PlayStation VR will be launched in October this year, according to Sony. The virtual reality headset will carry a price tag of $549.95.

Sony made the announcement at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The company first revealed the headset at the same event in 2014.

PSVR is different from other VR headset in the market. The headset works with PlayStation 4 console while Samsung Gear VR supports its flagship smartphone. Similarly, Facebook-owned Oculus Rift works with high-end PC.

The PS4 and the PSVR can be connected with a long USB cable. Along with it, a separate processing unit is placed between the PS4 and the TV to help process the 3D audio that also gives a power feature called ‘Social Screen’.

The Social Screen lets the PSVR and the TV project two perspectives on the same game at all times. The player can see the 2D version on the TV when he is alone. In multiplayer games, the player and the person who uses the TV can see two different perspectives to play.

Moreover, the processing unit gives a ‘Cinematic Mode’ that shows you any PlayStation 4 content that is normally seen on TV, notes Sydney Morning Herald.

With a $549.95 price, the user can get the headset and earphones apart from the $90 PlayStation Camera. Moreover, the device does not come with the motion-sensing Move controller. Many PSVR games will support the feature; however, users can use the standard DualShock 4 controller instead of the Move controller feature.

Since the console was launched, the PS Camera has been hard to find at retailers. This is essential for the players to take a snap of themselves as an easy way to record or broadcast over the PlayStation Network, YouTube or Twitch.

PlayStation Australia’s Michael Ephraim has assured Fairfax Media that many units of the camera would be on the shelves by November this year. However, the Move controller will not be available.
