Meralco will try to secure its first win in the 2015-16 Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup when it battles against Talk N Text today.

The Bolts is still finding its footing in the conference with a 0-2 win-loss record.

Business Mirror quoted Meralco Head Coach Norman Black as saying: “We need to break into the win column and get some momentum going.”

“Against Talk ‘N Text, we must establish a solid team defense. Jayson Castro will be a main concern but we must also do a good job of defending their outside shooters. Keeping their bigs off the boards will be crucial,” Black added.

Talk N Text, on the other hand, is coming off from a 10-day break following a win, 101-97, over Mahindra last Oct. 31.

Meralco veteran guard Jimmy Alapag will also be facing his former team for the first time since coming out of retirement.

Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer will try to bounce back from its recent loss when it battles against Blackwater later tonight.

The Beermen loss in their last outing against Rain or Shine, 84-99, while the Elite just came from a win against the Meralco Bolts, 92-90.

Blackwater coach Leo Isaac said “I’m not saying we can beat San Miguel but hopefully our confidence and morale will be on a higher level after scoring our first win in the all-Filipino tourney (against Meralco),” Inquirer wrote.

San Miguel Head Coach Leo Austria blamed the weak inside game of his team after Rain or Shine transformed them into a perimeter-shooting squad.

The Elite went 0 of 11 in last year’s PBA Philippine Cup. The Beermen, on the other hand, defeated Alaska in Game 7 in the Finals, Manila Bulletin noted.

The Bolts against the Texters will be the curtain raiser for today match-ups at the Philsports Arena in Pasig at 4:15 pm. It will be followed by San Miguel- Blackwater game at 7 pm.
