The Once Upon a Time execs may have dished more spoilers than they had intended. OUAT showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis teased details which could indicate that one character may be killed off in the upcoming Once Upon a Time Season 5 episode.
In the preview for Once Upon a Time episode called “Last Rites,” Hades (Greg Germann) arrives in Storybrooke, and Regina, Emma and the rest of the gang scramble for a plan to protect the town. Hades’ presence spells doom for the residents of Storybrooke as it ignites “a devastating conflict that someone will not survive.”
Things will not end well, and it appears that someone will die in “Last Rites.” The characters are seen in a funeral, with Emma bawling her eyes out. The tragedy is said to “break the very heart of Storybrooke.”
Adding to the suspenseful and threatening “Last Rites” preview, Kitsis also told The Hollywood Reporter that “everyone should be frightened.”
Kitsis and Horowitz hinted at the potential death of one of the characters, saying it will be an “impactful, important piece of the storytelling going forward.”
“Last Rites” will conclude Hades’ story arc while the two-hour Once Upon a Time Season 5 finale on May 16 will set things up for the next season.
Entertainment Weekly reports the show’s co-creators revealed that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) will be dealing with “serious family problems” and internal conflict, as does Regina (Lana Parrilla). Meanwhile, Henry (Jared Gilmore), who is the reason behind the events in episode 21, will go rogue in the finale.
“Emotions will run the gamut. Everyone will be affected by whatever happens, and it will set people on different paths for the finale,” Horowitz said.
There’s no confirmation as to which character is going to get the boot, but there are a few likely candidates. Judging by Emma’s reaction during the funeral, it’s possible that Hades could’ve killed Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), making his stay in the Underworld permanent.
It was also hinted that Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) will find themselves “in an old situation in a new place.” Prince Charming died in the past. Will history repeat itself?
Only Emma and Regina had close up shots during the funeral scene, with Regina looking rather stoic (she’s not really big on crying). In the preview, Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) also tells Regina that she is his “future.” Is this a tell-tale sign of Robin Hood’s death?
