One of The CW’s most beloved shows is nearing its end. With it, fans are wondering whether a fan favorite character will return for one last time. Will fans see a Nina Dobrev Vampire Diaries season 8 return? Or is the scenario impossible?

Although the actress was firm in leaving the show for her career’s next chapter, it seems all hope is not lost. Recent reports suggest that negotiations are ongoing for her comeback stint in TVD.

E! News bears the good news. According to the source, the higher ups of The CW are doing their best to convince Dobrev to return.

The entertainment outlet quotes CW boss Mark Pedowitz in saying, “We collectively came to the same place. We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision…there are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back…These are discussions that go on, hopefully she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

Nina Dobrev Vampire Diaries return: Why it’s important

The statement is good news indeed for fans wanting to see Elena Gilbert one last time. In addition, it is important to note that early seasons of the show revolved around the character. It only makes sense for her to play a major role when the show wraps.

Nevertheless, the negotiations can still go either way. There’s still a 50 percent chance that the actress won’t make it for season 8.

In that case, the show ending without Elena waking up would certainly be a bummer.

For now, fans can only hope that negotiations be in their favor.

Other projects

Since she left the series, Dobrev has been instantly busy with other projects. One of these is Vin Diesel’s return in a third XXX film. xXx: Return of Xander Cage is currently in post production. It hits theaters on January 2017.

Dobrev is also currently filming Flatliners. It’s said to be a reboot/sequel of the 1990 film starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Bacon. It releases on August 2017.
