Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries,” is not going to let the show end without her being part of the finale. Although her return is certain, the question now is when exactly will fans get to see her?
Nina Dobrev made a shocking cameo in “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 finale. She recorded her voice for the scene when Damon hears Elena’s voice in the vault.
It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head,” executive producer Julie Plec told TVLine.
“Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to,” she continued.
Plec revealed that although Nina Dobrev is willing to be a part of the finale, she did make it clear that she’s ready to mov on from her character in The Vampire Diaries.
“She was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that,” Plec shared. “So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”
The “TVD” return of Nina Dobrev was already expected when Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie Bennett, announced season eight would be her last.
Graham’s exit gives Nina Dobrev the chance to return as Elena, since her character is dead as long as Bonnie is alive.
“Season 8 will be my last,” Graham told Us Weekly at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on April 3. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good.”
She added that, “The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go because we’re a family.”
Ian Somerhalder also seemingly confirmed the news that Season 8 would actually be the end of the show. Appearing at the WalkerStalkerCon fan convention in Nashville, Somerhalder revealed that the show is officially moving toward a finale, as reported by Variety.
“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” he said.
