Nudity is a good tool to catch the limelight. Celebs have been using it pretty well, at times to support the cause of animal welfare, create awareness about deadly diseases and other reasons. Former Neighbours actress Caitlin Stasey recently used this effective means. Stasey launched a series of nude photos to battle Instagram, and it has resulted in a new drama.
Stasey, 26, posted a series of raunchy photographs on her Instagram page. Since those snaps are pretty provocative in nature, it made the bosses of the social networking site remove them (photos) over and over again.
However, the former Channel 5 series actress didn’t sit quietly. Every single time they removed her snap, she replaced it with another explicit picture of her, which exhibited her breasts or her bottom.
One of her close friends who is a feminist campaigner explained Stasey’s motive behind such action. She said, “She’s pissed that Instagram keeps deleting her shots.” She in fact captioned one photograph, where she displays her bare breasts with “Keep trying me, ‘gram”. It’s because they have nudity in them. Every time they do it, she puts up a new one to replace it, according to The Sun.
Stasey is getting infamous for her racy pictures, but she seems to be unaffected by it all. She has posted them on her own feminist website as well.
However, it is doubtful that Instagram will get less strict on its rules on nudity. An insider at the picture-sharing website said, “Her photos get removed but she just posts a replacement. She takes no notice and will not follow rules. It’s only a matter of time before her account gets suspended or deleted.”
The war of Stasey against Instagram isn’t just with these pictures. She has been a strong supporter of the Free The Nipple campaign, which is an ongoing campaign against Instagram’s “no nipple policy” on breasts. It has been argued that this is a sexist double standard, as the website under its community guidelines put no restrictions on photos of shirtless men and they are permitted to post bare chest pictures.
Former Neighbours star Caitlin Stasey seems to be taking a resolve to go head on with Instagram. Let’s wait and watch how the ‘bare’ game brings the needed change as the feminist perceives.
Caitlin Stasey played Rachel Kinski in Australian soap opera Neighbours. She made her first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on August 18, 2005. In 2009, she decided to quit the series to focus on her studies.
