Netflix has released the Narcos Season 2 trailer, and it revealed three possible groups that might have killed the Columbian druglord Pablo Escobar.

The Netflix original hit series is based on true events. In Season 1, viewers listened to DEA agent Steve Murphy’s (Boyd Holbrook) narration of Escobar’s 15-year history in drug trade.

In Narcos Season 2, the hunt is on for the infamous Medellin drug kingpin after he escaped from prison.  It will also reveal how his narco empire was finally brought to its knees, and ultimately, who killed Pablo (Wagner Moura).

DEA Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña are among the groups that will track Pablo in Season 2. The Cali cartel’s mercenary group Los Pepes will also hunt him down. Finally, the Search Bloc of the Colombian police will also launch a manhunt for the one of the world’s most wanted fugitives at the time.

Based on historical records, there were several stories on how Pablo died on December 2, 1993. From whose gun came the bullet that killed the druglord? Which version of his death will Netflix show?

Vibe reported that Pablo’s brother, Roberto Escobar, has expressed interest to review the second season of Narcos to determine whether it will represent what had really happened.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the show uses the real Murphy and Pena as Narcos consultants. During the recent special screening at Arclight Hollywood, Murphy said he knows who pulled the fatal shot on Pablo. He said it is something he shared during the development of Narcos Season 2.

Murphy, along with Colombian police troops, posed for photos with Escobar’s dead body. He explained why he was smiling in one of the photos that was etched in the public’s mind. “The reason I was smiling is because we knew, effective that moment, that every citizen in Colombia was safer, simply because one man died,” he said.

Meanwhile, Moura earlier revealed that Pablo will be killed off in Season 2. He also confirmed that he will exit the show after the second season.

Narcos has yet to be renewed for Season 3.

Netflix will release the 10-episode Narcos Season 2 on September 2. You may also catch the Golden Globe-nominated Narcos Season 1 on Netflix.
