Motorola Moto G smartphones gathered a following because of great specs being offered at competitive prices. However, with Lenovo acquiring Motorola, the existence of Moto G lineup was under question. But much to the delight of Motorola loyalists, previous reports and leaks indicated that the 4th generation offering of the Moto G could be arriving.

According to report on Phandroid, Motorola sent out invites for a May 17, 2016 event to be held in New Delhi, India. There have been hints or comments on what fans could expect, but it is being widely believed that the company may launch the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

Based on Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing’s comments during the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro launch event in Beijing, it was expected that  the Moto G unveiling would take place on June 9, 2016. But if the 4th-gen Moto G does materialise on May 17, then Lenovo may have another “exciting” product to introduce to the world during the June 9 event.

As noted by Digital Trends, the way the smartphone cycles work, this could be the first Moto G device that Lenovo would have a say in. Lenovo completely took the reigns of Motorola around October 2014, which would make the 4th generation Moto G device its first in the series.

The image leak, courtesy Evan Blass, showing off what is said to be the Moto G4 Plus depicts many radical changes in terms of the design, probably sacrificing aspects that made the Moto G series so popular. So, it will be interesting to see how the 2016 Moto G lineup fares this time around.

It appears that the new Moto G will be featuring some high-end specs and a larger screen which will have a direct impact on its pricing. This may disappoint fans looking for the line to continue to represent neat specs in a decent packaging offered at a good price.
