Johnson has been very active in documenting the film production of “Moana” on social media. He recently shared a clip of himself doing a recording session for the movie.
It's my DNA, but hard to explain the "mana" (spiritual power) that comes out when I perform the Haka. Highly intense and emotional and I always need a few minutes to calm down after I do it. I also have to do this last 'cause I blow out my damn vocal chords. 😂 🔫 This is a small clip from today's work from our new DISNEY animated musical #MOANA This THANKSGIVING. #BloodPumping #Haka #Mana #TimeForWar #PolynesianCulture
The movie is about the journey of a young girl who uses her navigational skills to set sail for a fabled island. Moana is the daughter of a Polynesian chief and the descendant of a long line of sea navigators. She will be joined by her hero, Maui, in her journey to find the island, Screen Rant wrote.
The film will be directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the duo behind Disney’s other iconic animated films such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” and “Hercules.” The script was written by Taika Waititi.
“Hamilton” creator and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has penned the music for “Moana” alongside New Zealand guitarist Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina (“Tarzan”). In January, Miranda had teased the first footage of the film. He tweeted, “I can’t wait for you to meet Moana,” along with a brief clip from the movie.
