Michael Schumacher is “Still Fighting” exclaimed his family friend as the Independent post reports on the horrific skiing incident in the French Alps. There have been very few signs of improvement but FIA President and close friend Jean Todt feels that Schumi is still fighting the odds.

“Michael is a close friend, his family is very close to me, and I’m very close to them as well,” the Frenchman said. “I see Michael very often, and Michael is still fighting, and we must keep fighting with the family,” according to the Independent‘s report.

The seven time Formula One champion suffered horrific injuries after a skiing trip went wrong in the French Alps on Dec. 29 , 2013. He was later placed in a medically induced coma to keep his condition stable. He showed some progress under a tightly guarded facility barring all unauthorized communications with any media outlet.

The rehabilitation process is a costly one and reports suggest that it is amounting to $154,000 per week and has touched $15 Million already. Reports also suggest that Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has already sold her husband’s €34m jet and is considering selling their chalet in France.

According to The Telegraph, Todt is impressed with Lewis Hamilton’s third championship title and it reminds him of Schumi in good times, He says, “It was interesting last week after Lewis won the title for third time.”

“You saw the figures. I was very proud of what Michael achieved. Sometimes you tend to forget what he did.”

Even 1992 champion Nigel Mansell, while speaking to BBC about Hamilton, feels that he must target Schumi’s record of winning seven World Titles. He comments, “Lewis is hot favorite for the 2016 and even the 2017 championship”.

Progress on Schumi’s health front has been really slow. There is a lot of money involved in his rehabilitation process as family members and fans remain hopeful about his full recovery. The 46-year-old German motorsport icon, Schumacher, has already lost around 65 lbs which is a significant weight loss compared to the listed 165 lbs in his F1 profile.
