The boxing legend Manny Pacquiao reclaimed the WBO welterweight title against Jessie Vargas on Saturday night. However, speculations state that there is a great chance for another Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.
Over 16,000 spectators came to the Thomas & Mack Center to witness the fight of the year. The Telegraph shares that the presence of Floyd Mayweather Jr. brought more spice to the arena. The unbeaten champion came minutes before Pacquiao’s main event victory. His appearance at ringside stirred rumors of a possible rematch of the two boxing legends.
Pacquiao and Mayweather went head to head in May 2015 where Floyd won victory over the Filipino boxer, earning almost $240 million. However, one fight seems not enough for both parties, especially for Manny and his fans. “I hope Floyd comes looking for Manny. It’s a fight we want. Floyd has even been by in my gym in Los Angeles a couple of times. It would be a great way for both of them to finish their careers,” Coach Freddie Roach said.
The new WBO welterweight title holder scored a unanimous decision victory. Pacquiao is now 5-6 with two draws and 38 knockouts. Apparently, he failed to knock out Vargas on Saturday. After his win, it is not possible to consider another bout of the biggest fight of the century.
In a report by USA Today, the 37-year-old boxing champion invited Mayweather to attend the fight. According to Mayweather, he was there because his daughter wanted to see the fight and nothing more. It seems that it’s yet too early to tell whether there would be rematch between the two but Pacquiao stays positive of the rematch and would say, “We will see.”
After the fight, Mayweather congratulated Pacquiao and gave him a thumbs up for winning. “Not bad,” he said. However, at this point it remains a speculation since Mayweather is still retired while Pacquiao will go back to the Philippines.
