The MAC Selena Makeup is proof that the Latina superstar lives on in the hearts of her fans.

MAC Cosmetics answered the call of Selena Quintanilla fans when they asked the company to honor the Latina superstar. Hence, 21 years after her death, the MAC Selena multi-product line is born. Early on, many said it would likely give the Lip Kit queen Kylie Jenner stiff competition in sales.

The collection debuted in stores on Thursday. Fans came to the stores as early as Wednesday night to make sure they were first in line at the opening. The MAC Selena collection includes a selection of lipsticks, bronzer-blush and eyeshadow. The 14-piece collection went on sale online earlier on the MAC website but it eventually sold out due to the high demand. News to date said they are restocking. Hence, stay tuned for further updates on when it would resume.

The website does indicate the brick and mortar stores where the collection is available. However, the number of sales is limited per customer, according to Chron. WFAA recalled how the MAC Selena Makeup collection got started through the determination of LA radio producer Patty Rodriguez in 2013. At the time, MAC Cosmetics launched the Marilyn Monroe line, hence her idea to commemorate the Latin superstar in the same manner.

“She’s an American icon. She represents the American woman. Here’s this American girl who spoke perfect English, yet sung in Spanish. She was living her culture in America. As a Latino, you relate to that 100 percent,” she said about Selena. By 2015, she rallied netizens to get onboard the petition using the hashtag #SelenaQuintanillaforMac.

The Latina superstar’s sister Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga worked closely with the cosmetics company to ensure the MAC Selena Makeup collection stayed true to her identity.
