“Legion” will finally hit the small screen next year. Fans have been waiting for this “X-Men” spin-off for quite a while now. What should they expect from this upcoming FX series?
David Charles Haller is one of Marvel’s strongest comic book characters of all time. He might also be the son of the “X-Men” founder, Professor Charles Xavier. But, in spite of these, this antihero has still gone largely unnoticed by people who aren’t big fans of the comic books. Could the titular star of another “X-Men” spin-off drop by for a cameo?
Could Deadpool himself help introduce Legion to more people?
According to Den of Geek, the Merc with a Mouth might not be appearing for a cameo in the series anytime soon. However, “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg did bring up “Deadpool” while discussing the upcoming mutant TV series. According to the overall mutant franchise overseer, the series will be as “radically different” as last year’s standalone “Deadpool” movie had been.
“It stands as part of the ‘X-Men’ universe. But it stands apart from it as well,” he explained in an interview with Movie Fone. “It is a very different sensibility than anything we’ve done with the ‘X-Men’ movies. Almost, I would say, as radically different as Deadpool was from the mainline ‘X-Men’ movies.”
The FX series, Kinberg explained, will come “in a different direction” from their other projects. He also pointed out how “character-based” and “granular in terms of getting inside the details of the characters” it would be.
The producer also said he trusted showrunner Noah Hawley’s vision for the series. Kinberg even called the pilot episode’s writer and director a “genius.”
Marvel Television and FX Productions co-produced this eight-episode series. “Legion” will debut on FX early next year. The series will follow the journey of a mutant struggling with his split personality based powers. “Downton Abbey” actor Dan Steven stars as the titular character. Production is currently underway.
