Kurt Russell confirmed that he is in negotiations for a role in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” but he also made a rather blunt comment about the Marvel movie.

The actor said he hasn’t seen the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and he would like to watch it first before considering joining the sequel.

It was earlier reported that director James Gunn is eyeing Russell to play the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s father.

In an appearance on MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Russell told the host that he spoke with Gunn about the role but he has yet to commit on the sequel.

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this, I’ve never seen ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ so I don’t know anything about it,” said the “Hateful Eight” actor.

“I didn’t realize that [Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do… it’s a little weird,” he added.

Russell also confirmed with Wall Street Journal that he is in talks with Marvel and Gunn about the possible role in “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel.

The second installment of the Marvel movie is due for release on May 5, 2017, while the production is expected to start in early 2016.

Stars of the first movie – Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Dave Batista (Drax the Destroyer ) will reprise their respective roles. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel will also return to voice Rocket and Groot, respectively.
