Kim Kardashian paraded a noticeably slimmer figure on May 12, revealing that she lost the extra weight she gained during her pregnancy.

The 35-year-old mother of two shared a photo on Snapchat that indicated that her weight is now down to 135.8 lbs. Her secret? The popular Atkins Diet plan. According to the Daily Mail, Kardashian-West couples her diet with a rigorous workout routine that involves 20 sprints early in the morning.

But Kanye West’s wife is determined to lose more than just the baby weight. In January this year, she revealed that she already lost 30 lbs. but still had “40 more to go.” “I gained 60 lbs. during my pregnancy but have been an extra 10 lbs. up for the last few years so it’s time to really get to my goal,” she explained about her weight goal.

The Kim Kardashian weight loss regimen is now one of the most talked about topics on social media. The question is, is this routine truly safe and effective especially for women who’ve just given birth?

The Atkins Diet, developed by the late Dr. Robert Atkins, introduces a meal plan that is high in protein and fat but low on carbohydrates. While it may give some the satisfaction of shedding off pounds faster than most other programs, it is not recommended for breastfeeding women.

Forbes reports that breastfeeding increases the body’s nutritional requirements by another 400 to 500 calories a day. The quality of breast milk depends on the nutritional value of the food a person takes in so it is essential that breastfeeding women follow a balanced diet. This simply means that women must consume healthy portions of protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

Although the Kim Kardashian weight loss program may have worked for the KUWTK star, it may not necessarily work the same way for other moms.
