DC Comics is on the move to expand its universe from television to the big screen. With its continuous effort to establish a universe as stable as what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced, DC came across a complication by casting two different people for the role of Barry Allen.
At present, DC fans are watching Barry Allen come to life by the portrayal of actor Grant Gustin in The CW’s “The Flash”. However, when the “Justice League: Part One” film comes out in 2017, DC fans will be exposed to two versions of the well-loved character from the comics (assuming that “The Flash” TV show extends its seasons up to that period). Although 2017 is still a long way, the second Flash to be cast has spoken in his future role in the “Justice League” film.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Ezra Miller, Justice League’s future Barry Allen, revealed portraying a more flawed character. EW quotes the 23-year-old actor as saying: “I’d like the character to have many dimensions. But really, I’d like him to have the usual dimensions we know and love, and then some extra ones that are part of the amazing consideration of this superhero.”
According to EW, the young actor adds that he wants to insert a human element to the character because seeing the humanity aspect of someone heroic is what makes superhero mythologies exciting.
In a report by IGN, it is revealed that Miller told MTV News he does not mind sharing the same character with Gustin. He was quoted by the website as saying: “I think it’s awesome… And come on, it’s The Flash, it’s parallel universes. Grant Austin is The Flash and I’m The Flash. Don’t you see? It’s the event horizon. We’ve crossed it, baby! Grant and I are chilling.”
The “Justice League: Part One” movie is set to hit theaters on 2017 while a standalone “The Flash” movie is scheduled for release on 2019.
