Ivana Trump, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s first wife, who spent 14 long years with the billionaire and knows him better than most. She said that the US presidency was on her former husband’s mind since long and that he was never a politician but a businessman.

“He’s no politician. He’s a businessman. He knows how to talk. He can give an hour speech without notes . . . He’s blunt,” the former model told the New York Post.

She added that Trump would depend on fantastic advisers like Carl Icahn to make a decision. “Obama cannot make a decision if his life depends on it. It’s ridiculous,” she said.

She also said that Trump was tooling with the idea of running for the presidentship for a long time. But their divorce got in the way and he could not think of giving it a chance at that point of time. According to her, their divorce in 1991 over Trump’s infidelity with Marla Maples made him infamous with the American women.

“Probably five years before our divorce, Reagan or somebody brought him a letter and said, ‘You should run for president,’” Ivana said sitting at her opulent Upper East Side townhouse. “So he was thinking about it. But then . . . there was the divorce, there was the scandal, and American women loved me and hated him.”

She added, “So there was no way that he would go into [politics] at that point,” Ivana says. “But he was always tooling around with the idea.”

However, the bitter times have now passed, as is evident from Trump’s position as the GOP frontrunner. Ivana has also mended ties with her former husband and often acts his adviser.

“We speak before and after the appearances and he asks me what I thought,” she said.

According to Ivana, Trump’s love for women cannot be equated with feminism. When she was asked whether her husband is a feminist, her reply was quite a take on Trump’s stance on the issue, the Gawker reported.

“I don’t think he’s feminist,” Ivana said. “He loves women. But not a feminist.” And it is his love for women that led to their much-publicised divorce.
