Islamic State terrorists have advanced plans to kill Jewish children in Turkey within the next 24 hours or in the next few days, Sky News reported exclusively. The militant group is planning to target kindergartens, schools and youth centres.

The information on the latest threat in Turkey was procured from the six operatives detained in the southern city of Gaziantep last week.

Intelligence officials said that the information is the most prominent of its kind gathered about the attack. Authorities have rolled up their sleeves and have taken their positions.

“In light of these circumstances, extraordinary security measures are being taken above and beyond the high alert level already in place by the Turkish police, as well as vigilance within the Jewish community,” said an intelligence source in a report by Sky News.

“Undercover and other covert counter-terror measures are being implemented around the clock. This is a more than credible threat. This is an active plot,” the source added.

Istanbul’s synagogue in Beyoglu, which has a community centre and a school attached to it, could be the central target of the attack.  Israelis traveling to Turkey have also been advised to leave the country following the terror threat.

On 19 March, Turkey reported a deadly attack in Istanbul that killed five people and injured 30. Of those killed were three Israelis and an Iranian along with the bomber. Turkey’s interior minister, Efkan Ala, blamed ISIS for the attack, reported Aljazeera.

On January 12, Turkey was rocked by a suicide bomb attack  which set off in a tourist area in central Istanbul, killing 10 foreigners who were mostly Germans.

“The so-called Islamic State is believed to be behind both sets of attacks and the organisation continues in determined efforts to perpetrate further attacks in Turkey and elsewhere.” said an intelligence report.

Currently, around three million refugees reside in Turkey. And it is believed that several European members of the Brussels and Paris cells got their training in Syria.  These militants had secretly sneaked in through the horde of refugees seeking refuge in Europe.
