Will Apple finally drop the 16GB storage option from the iPhone 7 specs sheet? Recent reports indicate that Apple will start its base model of the iPhone 7 with 32GB of built-in storage.
Citing its supply chain sources, an analyst at IHS Technology suggested that in 2016 Apple will finally do away with the 16GB storage variant from its top-of-the-line iPhone line-up, reports 9to5Mac.
However, drawing conclusions from an analyst report would not be fair enough. Earlier, there were rumors that Apple would probably enhance the storage capacity of its base model. The top-end model might also come with a humongous 256GB storage option, according to unofficial reports.
The current generation of iPhone 6s offers 16GB, 64GB and 128GB of internal storage options.
Despite several speculations over the past nine years, Apple has remained loyal to its 16GB model of the iPhone. The base model with 16GB in-built storage capacity was introduced on the original iPhone back in 2008.
The analyst also claimed on Chinese social media that the next generation of iPhone 6s will house 2GB of RAM. However, the source did not specifically mention any model of the rumored iPhone 7.
With its new flagship device expected this fall, Apple has been subject to numerous leaks, rumors and speculations. Previously, renowned KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that the top-end variant of the iPhone 7 dubbed as the iPhone 7 Plus Premium or Pro, will sport 3GB of RAM.
It is noteworthy that Apple is said to introduce two 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants with standard specs and features alongside a “premium” 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus or Pro variant, as reported by Mobipicker.
The iPhone 7 Plus Premium or Pro variant may also feature a dual-lens camera module. Ming-Chi Kuo predicted the entire line-up of 5.5-inch iPhone 7 will be shipped with a dual-lens camera.
Apple is known for unveiling its most coveted product of the year at its annual fall event scheduled in September. This 2016, the Apple iPhone 7 release date may also fall in September.
Other speculated iPhone 7 specs include a thinner chassis, removal of antenna lines from the rear panel, water resistance and inclusion of bigger battery cell.
