The new iPad Air 3 is set for release and we will see some significant improvements in specifications, according to a source close to Apple. The iPad Air 2 boasted of pretty impressive features already, but the specifications on the iPad Air 3 are set to double the standards of its predecessor.

According to a report in Bloomberg, Apple will roll out the iPad 3 Air with the A9X processor that was earlier found in the iPad Pro. This is a dual core CPU with a 12 cluster GPU.

A statement in Bloomberg said:

“In March, Apple intends to announce an updated iPad and smaller-screen iPhone featuring the latest A9x and A9 chips, according to a person familiar with the plans, who wasn’t authorized to comment publicly.”

The new version of iPad will therefore match the iPhone 6s series in performance and almost double the speed at which the previous iPad Air operates. The A9x boasts of a 4GB RAM which is exactly double the memory in the iPad Air 2 and the graphics of the new iPad are also far ahead of its predecessor in numbers.

According to Apple Insider, performance is also aided by a new storage controller that improves both read and write speeds.

Apple already hinted about what to expect in the iPad Air 3 earlier in the month.

It is rumoured to have quad speakers to deliver powerful audio performance, as well as a Smart Connector on the side for compatibility with its own “smart” accessories. According to many it will also support the Pencil. For photographers, the rumour also suggests that the iPad will have a LED Flash to support bad lighting conditions.

Together with the iPad Air 3, Apple is also ready to launch the new 4-inch iPhone. The announcement at a media event is widely predicted to take place on March 15. The devices will go on sale just three days after the formal announcement, which is March 18, according to the latest rumours.
