It was widely expected that Apple would unveil the iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 5 at the company’s March event. However, it disappointed many gadget lovers. Nevertheless, many tech websites forecast that Apple will be refreshing the iPad Air and iPad Mini versions in the third quarter of the year.
Previous rumours stated that Apple will be launching iPad Air 3 at the Apple’s March keynote but instead iPad Pro in the same size of the iPad Air made a debut. Going by the release cycle of the Apple, a new version of iPad should have been launched in October 2015; however, it did not happen. Instead, iPad Mini 4 was launched along with iPhone 6 in September 2015. So there was no October launching last year.
Chris Martin of PC Advisor believes that iPad Air 3 will make its appearance later this year. The new model would be launched at much cheaper prices and would provide an option to the new iPad Pro and an upgrade option for iPad Air 2.
According to rumours, iPad Air 3 will sport a 9.7-inch screen having a display resolution of 2048×1536 and a 264 PPI pixel density. The device would be powered by A10 or A10X for more premium performance.
The current iPad mini 4 was launched in September 2015. Industry experts are of the opinion that the company would use that release window again for the next-generation iPad Mini. MacWorld notes that the tablet would arrive in autumn 2016.
iPad Mini 5 would run on iOS 10 and would sport thinner design than the previous iPad mini version. Apple fans are of expectation that iPad mini iteration to have 3D touch pressure-sensitive screen, which is seen in latest iPhone models.
It is worth noting that Apple has not yet confirmed or denied any of the details above, so it is advisable to take it with a proverbial pinch of salt.
