An Indonesian mayor has said that poor “nutrition is the cause behind homosexuality and transgender children.
Tangerang City mayor, Arief R Wismansyah expressed his views on homosexuality during a seminar at the city health office. He opined, “To create Indonesian children that are healthy smart and competitive, the most important thing is, from the beginning, to provide them adequate nutrition, especially breastfeeding.”
According to Wismansyah feeding your baby canned milk and instant noodle may turn them into homosexuals. He observed that nowadays parents are so busy that they feed their child these foods which might have a permanent negative effect on them. He further stated, “So, it’s no wonder that recently there are more LGBT.”
The mayor insisted that Allah created the right pair and that was not Adam and Asep but Adam and Eve.
Although, scientists as well as parents will agree with the importance of early childhood nutrition, there is no doubt that no link can be established between a person’s sexual orientation and his early childhood nutrition. Besides, there is a very thin chance that any scientist would agree with him in this regard.
Despite of the fact that homosexuality is legalized in the country people still have very conservative attitude towards it. Recently, the Defense Minister of the country, Ryamizard Ryacudu commented that pro-LGBT movement was more dangerous than nuclear warfare, as stated in a blog by Revoked.
There were also reports by Jakarta Post that a leading Indonesian psychiatric body had classified homosexuality, bisexualty and transgenderism as mental disorders.
Suzy Yusna Dewi, a member of the psychiatric body, said, “We really do care about them. What we are worried about is, if left untreated, such sexual tendencies could become a commonly accepted condition in society.”
The association’s Mental Health and Mental Disorder Diagnostic Guidelines label homosexuals and bisexuals as people with psychiatric problem and transgenders as people with mental disorder.
Previously, there were reports that Tumblr had been banned in the country and Ministry’s e-business director Azhar Hasyim demanded removal of explicit contents from the site. He said, “If Tumblr then agrees to block pornography and LGBT content from being accessed in Indonesia, we will open [access to] the website again.”
