Jeff Goldblum, the wonderfully expressive, quirky and somewhat eccentric actor famous for “The Fly,” “Jurassic Park” and “Independence Day” is currently promoting his latest movie, “Independence Day: Resurgence,” a sequel to the 1996 sci-fi film which starred Goldblum and Will Smith in the lead. Speaking to SlashFilm, Jeff Goldblum said that he may or may not appear in the “Jurassic World” sequel.

“I don’t know, I can’t imagne,” Goldblum said with his signature laugh when asked whether he is going to appear in “Jurassic World 2.”

On being prompted, Goldblum agreed that he may appear in the fifth “Jurassic Park” film which is being currently written by “Safety Not Guaranteed” and “Jurassic World” helmer Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly. “Who knows what the future holds,” Goldblum said, teasing the possibility of his appearance in the “Jurassic World” sequels that are to follow.

Jeff Goldblum originally appeared as quirky chaos theorist Dr. Ian Malcolm in Steven Spielberg’s original “Jurassic Park” and then reprised the role in the sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”

In the first film released in 1993, Goldblum’s character had theorised that the prehistoric menagerie of dinosaurs was bound to fail due to a variety of factors based on his chaos theory predictions.

Like in the book by late author Michael Crichton, Goldblum is seen in monotone clothing; all-black in the first film and all-brown in the second and appears as a “voice of reason” counterpart to John Hammond’s (late Richard Attenborough) over-ambitiousness.

In “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” which came out in 1997, Goldblum played a different, more world-weary sceptic and cynical Ian Malcolm who has to take care of a daughter and save his girlfriend from a second, more dangerous island filled with even more dinosaurs. 2017 will be the 20th anniversary of the film.

Seeing as another old franchise, “Star Wars” brought back the famous old favourites Han Solo, Leia, Luke, Chewbacca, R2D2 and C3PO, maybe “Jurassic World” filmmakers will take a cue and bring back the original leads played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. Fans have expressed a huge interest in seeing Neill and Goldblum to re-appear as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Malcolm.

Both Neill, Dern and Goldblum appeared in two Jurassic Park films. Neill and Dern appeared in “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park 3,” while Goldblum appeared in “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” following the first film.

Rumours have it that Spanish horror film director Juan Antonio Bayona is being eyed to direct “Jurassic World 2,” though there is no confirmation as of yet. The fifth film in the “Jurassic Park” series will have Claire as the protagonist of the film with her character appearing transformed by the events of “Jurassic World.”

The “Jurassic World 2” discussion occurs at the two minute 58 seconds mark in the video below.
