HTC will always be credited with being the first Nexus device manufacturer to bring out the Nexus One. The company has also given tech aficionados, the Nexus 9 tablet.

Now, going by the word of a tipster on Weibo, it appears that Google and HTC will be teaming-up again for not one but two Nexus devices for 2016. Last year Google worked with two OEMs – LG and Huawei to bring out two Nexus smartphones, Nexus 5X and 6P. This was the first time ever that the Mountain View tech giant released two Nexus devices in one year and it looks like the company wants to follow that up with two pure Android smartphones this 2016 as well.

As noted by Android Headlines, fans may witness the arrival of a 5-inch and a 5.5-inch Nexus device from the stables of HTC and Google. If the rumors materialize then HTC will have two Nexus devices to its credit this year, along with the company’s flagship, One M10, which is expected to make an appearance at the MWC 2016 next month.

However, as tech aficionados may recollect, last month analyst Pan Jiutang, head of research at the Shenzhen Huaqiang Electronics Research Institute in China predicted that Google would again team with Huawei to bring out the Nexus 2016 smartphone. Given how well the Huawei Nexus 6P was received, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to many if that does happen.

It now remains to be seen whether HTC or Huawei will sign on the dotted line. In any case, fans can hope that the Nexus 2016 smartphones arrive running on the rumored Android N or Android Nutella right when they land on the tech scenario.

If Google keeps up with tradition the Nexus 2016 devices may be launched sometime in September or October. A good number of months lie ahead and fans may hear something more concrete as we inch closer to Google’s annual event.
