Netflix is still tight-lipped on the official release date of “House of Cards” season five and this fuels speculations that it could be on March 2017.
According to Yibada, if the network follows their practice in releasing the hit political thriller series, fans can expect it around this time next year. “House of Cards” season 1 and season 2 premiered on Feb. 1, 2013 and Feb. 14, 2014, respectively. Season 3 and “House of Cards” season 4, on the other hand, were released on Feb. 27, 2015 and March 4, 2016 respectively.
However, Yibada also mentioned that there have been some contradicting rumors indicating that the fifth season of “House of Cards” will be released on Jan. 20, 2017 to coincide with the US presidential inauguration.
Willimon is departing “House of Cards” prior to Season five and wished that the show will continue its success. He was quoted saying: “After five years and four seasons, it’s time for me to move on to new endeavors…. and leave it in the hands of a very capable team.”
Meanwhile, “House of Cards” star Nathan Darrow hinted about the fate of the character, Edward Meechum, in the upcoming season.
In a recent interview with Bustle, Darrow teased about a possible Meechum cameo at some point in the upcoming season. Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) loyal secret service agent died in the line of duty.
“I mean, if the writers find that’s something that’s useful to telling some other bit of a story or if they feel like it’s going to be interesting to the audience, then I’m sure they could,” he told Bustle.
Darrow also admitted that he would not hesitate to play Meechum once again. “Of course! Of course, I’d be up for it. It was very interesting to play that character,” the actor said. Darrow added that would love to see if Meechum return will be centered around a flashback.
Through the years, Meechum quickly became a fan-favorite. Hence, even in just a flashback, it is an exciting idea to consider that he will appear in season five.
