The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won’t premiere for another year. But fans have already begun guessing what the sequel has in store for the unlikely band of heroes. One Guardian in particular, Groot, has become the subject of much discussion. Just how much will Groot change in the next film?
Marvel earlier revealed a version of Groot that looks like a baby for the sequel. This version looks like a whole different character. However, fans need not worry about their favorite Guardians of the Galaxy member. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige himself assured fans that Groot still knows who his friends actually are.
“He remembers. He’s not mentally a baby. He is still Groot,” Feige told Collider. “I sort of equate it to Spock circa the end of Search for Spock and The Voyage Home,” he explained.
The sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t the only upcoming Marvel movie in the next year of so, though. The studio will deliver follow-ups to their popular titles soon. The Thor: Ragnarok movie will premiere on November 3, 2017. The Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, will open on July 6, 2018. Part 1 of Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, will hit the big screen on May 4, 2018. Part 2, on the other hand, will open a year later on May 3, 2019.
The latest Spider-Man reboot, Homecoming, will hit theatres on July 7, 2017. The standalone film of Black Panther meanwhile will open on February 16, 2018.
Marvel will also bring new characters to the fold. The Benedict Cumberbatch starring film, Doctor Strange, will hit the big screen on November 4, 2016. The upcoming Captain Marvel solo film, starring Oscar winning actress Brie Larson, will premiere on March 8, 2019.
Meanwhile, you have to wait until next year to catch baby Groot’s return to the big screen. The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won’t hit theaters until May 5, 2017.
