Will Dr Callie Torres really be back for “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13? Everyone’s favourite orthopaedic surgeon recently made her exit from the hit series. But will her departure really just be temporary?

The show’s creator Shonda Rhimes recently revealed Torres’ exit shocked even her. “This was interesting,” Rhimes told US Weekly. “This one was different because it wasn’t a big, planned thing. I had a different plan going and when [Sara Ramirez] came and said, ‘I really need to take this break.’ I was sort of lucky that we had shot the end of the season with her going to New York.”

Ramirez has been part of the series as Callie Torres since the second season. In the show’s Season 12 finale, Torres announced she was moving to New York with her girlfriend Penny Blake. Rhimes admitted she found out Ramirez wanted to take a break “maybe three days” before the announcement. But will her exit just be short-lived? Will we see her again in Season 13?

No report has yet to confirm this. However, Ramirez did say she will “definitely” keep in touch with the “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner. “Shonda’s been so incredible to work for…we will definitely continue our conversations!” she was quoted by Cinema Blend as saying. “I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!”

“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy,” the actress added. “But for now, I’m taking some welcome time off.  I send my love to Ellen [Pompeo], the rest of the cast and crew.”

Meanwhile, according to E! News, Jessica Capshaw, who plays Torres’ ex-wife Arizona Robbins, also addressed her exit. “Congrats on 10 incredible years! I wish [Sara Ramirez] the very best. I celebrate what Callie has given to all of us,” she wrote on Twitter.
