Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 returned last week, September 22. One of the lead characters, Alex Karev played by Justin Chambers is behind bars. Meanwhile, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, does everything just to defend her best friend Alex.
After the Season 12 finale last May, fans were left with a lot of questions to unresolved conflicts in the last season. This includes how Alex beat up Andrew DeLuca. In this new episode, Meredith will have to go after Alex to get to the bottom of what he’s done.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Pompeo says with a laugh, “I think as long as it’s within the law,” she said, “Alex is her ride-or-die.” Pompeo also shared how Meredith’s role comes close to intimidating DeLuca on the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
She says that Meredith has to pull back her plans because she doesn’t want to make anything worse for Alex. Another piece of information is that Pompeo is not sure whether Meredith’s romance with Nathan Riggs will continue. Apparently, they won’t be having any sexy scenes in at least the first five episodes of the season.
In the season premiere, the love triangle between Meredith, her sister and the surgeon continues. Meredith knows she has to end things with the surgeon because her sister likes him. However, Meredith will have to continue keeping her previous hookup with Riggs a secret from Maggie.
Fans have a lot to expect from Grey’s Anatomy Season 12, but they shouldn’t jump from one character’s story to another immediately. “We have Riggs in the mix, too, so we can’t just go to the Alex place!,” said Pompeo.
She also said that even after being in the show for so long, she still get surprised by the twists and turns. “No one knows what will come out of Shonda Rhimes’ mind. I never try to predict the future, in my job or in my real life,” she says.
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
